Toyota ketuai pembangunan kereta pasaran ASEAN, Daihatsu turun pangkat
Toyota dalam satu langkah drastik mengumumkan penstrukturan semula operasi mereka untuk pasaran ASEAN.
Berkuat-kuasa serta merta, Toyota akan mengambil alih tugas mengetuai pembangunan kereta kompak untuk pasaran membangun daripada Daihatsu.
Menurut Toyota, syarikat yang dikenali sebagai Emerging-market Compact Car (EMCC) telah pun dibubarkan, dan bakal dikenali sebagai Toyota Compact Car Company (TMCC).
Langkah ini bertujuan untuk mengelakkan isu skandal ujian keselamatan yang dilakukan oleh Daihatsu berulang, sekaligus mencalarkan reputasi pengeluar kenderaan terbesar di dunia itu.
Ini bermakna, Toyota kini bertanggungjawab terhadap model-model generasi baharu untuk pasaran ASEAN seperti Avanza/Veloz, Raize/Ativa, Yaris Cross (platform DNGA) dan sedan Vios, bermula dari fasa pembangunan sehinggalah kepada fasa pensijilan.
Sementara Daihatsu pula akan terus membantu dalam membangunkan kenderaan pasaran membangun, namun dibawah pengawasan ketat oleh abang besarnya Toyota.
Sementara model-model kenderaan yang masih lagi sedang dibangunkan oleh Daihatsu akan diperiksa dan diperakui oleh Toyota, seperti model Yaris generasi baharu.
Selain daripada itu, Toyota turut mengumumkan penjenamaan semula dua syarikatnya, iaitu Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing Co. Ltd (TDEM) dan Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. (TMAP) sebagai Toyota Motor Asia (TMA) yang akan bertindak menjadi Ibu Pejabat Serantau Asia.
